The Elizabeth House inaugural Women’s Fall Event: Garden Tea with Champagne and Jazz was a huge success! Thanks to the generosity of friend and supporter of Elizabeth House, Martha Brown, the Garden Tea was hosted in her beautiful backyard garden. It was the perfect setting to celebrate the tremendous spirit of community that makes Elizabeth House a place of safety and support for homeless, pregnant women and their children.

Representative of the quality of service extended to Elizabeth House’s most prized possessions: the women and children housed, each round table was dressed with great finesse. Each table was beautifully draped and set with its own style of fine China teaware, beautiful center pieces, tiered trays and platters. The tea and delicacies were served in style by wonderful volunteer table hostesses and butlers. Many friends, volunteers, staff, alumni and those newly acquainted with Elizabeth House had lively conversation with top notch jazz playing in the background.

The scene was set for the wonderful report of the growing mission of Elizabeth House. Founder and Executive Director, Debbie Unruh, shared that after much prayer and planning, a new 3,000 square foot home had been purchased to accommodate the rapidly expanding Alumni Services Program.

Two alumni, Philandria Washington and Mavic Reyes, as well as volunteer, Kathy Perkins, participated in the event. Mavic displayed her jewelry representing her second chance at life. Philandria and Kathy shared how much Elizabeth House impacted their lives for the better. Their remarks underscored the tremendous amount of love, planning and targeted programming it takes to make Elizabeth House successful in its endeavors.

In her closing remarks, Debbie brought to everyone’s attention a well-dressed, but unseated table. Like this table, Elizabeth House embraces a mission of providing the highest level of physical, emotional, spiritual, and economic support for future residents—residents whose lives will also come to reflect the beauty and grace hoped for.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed to making this event the first of many memorable Garden Teas!
